No sleep last night, at all.
Struggle out of bed. Going to meet friend for lunch. Before I leave, check email. Get letter from computer people " your order will be arriving btwn the 17th and 23rd". Get happy
Driving on Belt Pkwy, car dies....again. Tow truck happens past, same guy who towed me last time. " Hey, I know you". 90 bucks poorer, although this time we went more than half a block, so it doesn't sting as much. yeah.
Takes me off Belt. Look under hood. Same thing as last time, a belt ripped in half. I knew I should have replaced tensioner last time ( was issue) , but didn't. Saved money then, going to spend it now + more now. So anyway, the tensioner is shot, completely. I got replacement belt, but since tensioner is dead, can't put belt on properly. Really sucks sitting in lot trying to do one simple thing like putting belt on. Sucks more that there is going to be some real work to replace tensioner.
I'm thinking this grad school stuff is a waste of time. Tow truck guys with Belt Pkwy rights made almost 200 bucks off me for 15 minutes work!
Miss class. Of all the classes i'm taking, metadata/ xml isn't the class to skip. Hope missing doesn't jam me up. Think it will.
Get home, hear message that computer is actually coming tomorrow! Seems that Dell and United Parcel aren't on the same page. Oh well. I bet it's just monitor.

my graphics card just died :-(.
Suddenly all those wonderful colors I took for granted have now been replaced with simple red, bland blue and lots of grey. Too tired to put old card in.
Interestingly, I was reading about RBG vs CMKY color at the time.
R.I.P ATI 64 mb Radeon 7500. You served me well for about 5 years despite your sale price. I saw you lonely on the shelf, but knew we'd make a good pair. I was 20-something and you were 1. We got you to play Spiderman despite the missing Kraven the Hunter lvl. 3d goodness for so long.

I guess avoiding these until October is something to be proud of. I'm really sleepy. I don't want to do this. I did find time to play video games and L.J, but those req. different skills. Out of 15 ' need to be addressed' topics in this assignment, I have five done so far. It's 330 a.m. Sigh.
I don't have much more of these all night work fests left it me.

I spent decent chunk on computer ( after taxes). Was able to get mostly what I wanted, but not everything. Decided NOT to build, but that decision was made before I placed order, now i'm thinking " you know, I shoulda.". Duo core goodness, fairly decent speed, Geforce 7900 GS card ( really wanted better 512 GTX , but price jump seemed exponential. This will have to do until I have play money to toss around), 19 inch screen ( 20 would have been better, but not important)Firewire stuff, which I needed, card reader, which I needed, lotsa HD space ( runnin on 20 + cds and flash drive for yrs. Yes, it was bad at times). 1 gb of memory, but i got some laying around, so thats getting popped in as well as one of my optical drives. Could have saved self about 200 bucks if I omitted screen, but i've heard enough stories of peoples monitors going up in smoke to scare me.
Salivating at idea of my art pgms actually working the way they should. Oh, and Lotr/ warhammer games... |

See new computer in near future. Almost bought one today but decided to exercise a bit of patience. Thought about building one , but that kills instant gratification ( still may) . Spent six of the 12 waking hours today ( I soo needed that sleep) looking at pre-mades and see some decent prices for what I want. Probably have to salvage a few parts from current, but that allows for pretty sweet grafx card and processor. Either way, see new computer in near future and that makes me happy. |

Went to see what was up with car. Poked around and noticed the water pump was culprit. Didn't see that when it first happened, but I wasn't looking for it either. Thats what made the heat meter go up and engine light go on, which leads to no charge on battery and thats what I was apparently driving on until car died, not the engine itself. So obvious, now. Not so bad. Was able to fit the belt back on and moved car. Deafening scraping metal sounds. After car was moved, saw the belt half off, again. Still rooted in parking lot.
Got estimates from a few places. All want close to $400. Sigh. The part itself is about 60, the rest is labor! Could do it myself, but tow home would be over $100 + part+ not being 100% sure if thats the only thing, although the pump is def. fucked. I think i'm right. |

Final exam at 4:00 p.m., leave for school at 2 p.m. Engine seized on Belt at 3:00, after sitting in traffic. Heat meter ran from kinda hot-> very kinda hot. Cops come at 3:05. Tells me that the belt pkwy has some weird rule that won't allow me to use my auto club tow service. Cop calls one, they arrive at 3:15. Get $94.00 poorer at 3:40 for 90 feet off the road-tow + tip. Drop me in Home depot mall. Walk to Target for atm because tow guys " prefer cash". 3:45 call school, tell them situation, they say don't worry about it. 3:50 open hood, see belt unraveled. 3:55 pick self up off of parking lot ground and wipe tears from eyes. Get to school at 4:50, take exam, do ok i think. Go to next class at 6:30, zone at 6:35. Enjoy in-class party. Say goodbyes to friends, thinking "goodbye all my fun money".
Get lift home, arrive at 10:30ish and look to heat up first meal of day. Vege eggroll coming out of package at 10:50. 10:51 it falls on floor. 10:52-> 10:53 stare at it on floor as if it could pick itself up. 10:54 i pick it up. Cook till 10:55, until eggroll is hot, start seperating the attached duck sauce packages that comes with eggrolls. Spill, of course. Burned roof of mouth on hot cabbage filling. 11:00 stopped crying and picked self off kitchen floor.
again , i wonder what the hell I did to deserve days like this, but apparently it was something really really bad.
It couldn't be any other way... |

Sitting in department lab today redoing site for umteenth time with group ( its close to done now, again)I ran into Victor from the 4m. Not V. P, the other one, Little Victor ( um, sorta short, black hair, hispanic, used to come down pretty regularly in 99/2001 i guess) . Small world. Another 4mite librarian, hes in the mlis pgm too.
Interesting, the site NOW looks alot like it did when i did it the first time. |

at least thinking about it. Class is covering topic I already know and demonstrated that to professor a few weeks back . What stinks is there was an assignment over the break that we had to do. It had iffy instructions and not many people did it ( 2 so far). I managed to get through some of it, and i think what i did was right, but didn't complete it all as it was posted. Maybe i'll get points for being one of 2 people who tried? Hate not knowing if spring break assignment will be discussed in class. Hate more if i go and all we do is the stuff i already know how to do. Wish break was longer... |

I will do anything to avoid being productive in the way I should be. I got an assignment due on Monday, but instead i'm doing the assignment due next month, and it's not much more involved. I'm lamenting about the assignment thats due on Monday because theres another assignment that I have to email to professor by this Saturday, the latest.
Made web page for May assignment, but spent more time working on the content of my group members than my own. Made animated .gif for theirs, I have static pictures. Seems pretty good so far though, so i'm happy about that. Shit, i'm running out of things to say, that means work.
Oh yeah, NBA playoffs start this weekend. That'll kill many hours. Pistons vs. Spurs in final provided Tim Duncan and Manu ( spurs) stay healthy. Pistons have been playing at championship lvl. since the start of the season. Don't want them to win. They are horrible to watch; they play ugly possession-by-possession half-court drag it out basketball. The Sacto kings ( formerly my team along with Indiana Pacers) are the 8th seed in west, which means they will face the Spurs. That sucks. Phoenix Suns face the Lakers in the 2/7 matchup. Possibly the best 1st round match. Miami Heat ( Shaq's team) are only team to give Pistons any challenge in East really. Shaq is older now, and Dwayne Wade can't carry them through it all alone ( although last year he came close. If not for injuries to both of them, they would have been playing for championship and may have beat the Spurs).
Pacers general manager Larry ' legend' Bird says he ' will clean house' this off season. Jermaine o'Neil a Knick? That would be fantastic. He'd vault us into playoffs in one season. Pacers need a point guard ( marbury) and we need a good center. Philly 76ers say the same with Allen Iverson, but he's 31 yrs old. Point guards at that age start to lose a step ( see Jason Kidd), so getting him now, even though he plays with more intensity that most players, is iffy. In 1 or 2 years he may be too banged up to do what he does now. Point guard is pbly the most skilled position. It is also the position that relies most on speed. A 31 yr old would be hard pressed to out run a 22 yr old for 48 minutes, cagey veteran player and all. He too matches salaries pretty equally with Marbury. Maybe Knicks had this plan all along. Maybe acquiring all those horrible contracts was Isiah Thomas' genius.

Nothing beats 2 day old brewed coffee, especially the last cup. Chewing the grounds that made it through the filter and settled on the bottom. Whats better is when they get stuck in your teeth...better than a Butterfinger bar.

Justice League Unlimited is ending ( read: cancelled). That really sucks. It's the one t.v. show I really like. New episodes tonight and every week until the end. Got the tape ready. Read some spoilers, seems pretty good.
Knicks season ends very soon. Actually was foolish enough to think they MAY make it to the first round of the post season. HA! What's better is they are one of the bottom teams....AND GAVE UP A 1st ROUND DRAFT PICK FOR EDDIE CURRY! So, the Chicago Bulls are going to love their number 1-3 pick. Larry Brown (hall of fame coach) hates half the team, and wants to trade them. Notables-
Stephon Marbury: Coach has his druthers, you gone. You have yours, coach gone. What gives first? Most talented guy on team and somewhat all-star. No more Coney Island over- dribbling me-first playground ball with the Knicks.
Jerome James aka. Big snacks: Why you are here is still a mystery. Why you still weigh 300+ pounds and get winded after 2 minutes of playing this late in season is another mystery..but you can wave the rally-towel really well. 30 million over 5 yrs. for you?? May cost G.M his job ultimately. Um, actually, no one will take you in a trade, so you may be back.
Steve Francis: You are a clone of Marbury, only 2 inches taller. May be gone, may replace Marbury, who knows, you too are a mystery acquisition. Wwwhy doesn't coach play you WITH Marbury...that MIGHT actually work; this team is bereft of scoring ability and you can both do it( aside from either being undersized at the 2-guard position and a liability on the defensive end).
Jalen Rose: Good player when you were young. Coach pressed for team to get you before trade deadline...and then sits you. Um?

Sound of Thunder- Don't watch this. One of the worst movies i've seen in a long time. About a government run time machine. Allows hunters to go back in time to hunt dinosaurs. Because its time travel, the hunters can kill the same dino over and over again. Nothing bad will happen with history because somehow the scientists were able to determine the dino was going to die immediately before the hunters get to it. Instead of being stuck in tar then burned by lava, the govt. lets the hunters shoot it instead.
Dialogue: Main character, who is supposedly a PhD, is about as articulate as one of the 'Welcome Back Cotter' sweathogs. All words over 2 syllables were omitted from screenplay, instead its " no, dont do that", " this is mine" " run" "suit yourself" etc.
Special effects: All i can say is i can pbly. make better with photoshop and flash.
Sometimes I can dig some bad sci-fi, but this...this was terrible. There were too many questions left unanswered. Some things made absolutely no sense at all ( the only working time machine is used for hunting expeditions? No one cares about this?). Maybe i'm looking at it wrong and its a commentary about govt and business, but if so, it still fails as a film. I wont give away the end ( yes, I did watch till the end, but i'm the same sadist who read the awful DaVinci code, too), but trust me, you don't want to know.
Capote: This was pretty good. Similar feel as "Ray". Captures a segment of the guys life. Good acting and all that. |
